About the Project

Founded in June 2023, Ocean Communities in Action (OCA) finds its roots in the desire to make impactful interventions in the often-overlooked sphere of marine conservation within the discourses and dialogues on climate change. The initiative aspires to work from the grassroots to positively alter the present-day landscape by curating and administering community-specific knowledge systems and practices, also standing in the vanguard of sustainable approaches to everyday living. OCA’s holistic approach to tackling the many anxieties that pervade marine ecosystems and communities stands outside conventional marine conservation action – the heart of it lies in empathy and care, and the ardent desire to foreground the voices of underserved marine communities and to empower them for transformative changes.
